Dartimen Silvernight
(a.k.a. The Jack of Diamonds)
Dartimen Silvernight, born Darthallian Selnarith, is a figure of endless contradictions: a noble by blood, a rogue by circumstance, and a hero by necessity. From the soaring halls of Iorill to the untamed seas of The Stormrider, his life has been a relentless march between loyalty and betrayal, triumph and tragedy. To those who follow his legend, Dartimen is the quintessential antihero—a man who claims to be a villain but is remembered as a savior.
Born into the prestigious Selnarith house in the elven city of Iorill, Dartimen’s early life was one of privilege laced with tension. His family’s status demanded excellence, and as the third son, his role was carved from the shadows. Trained as a spy and infiltrator, he became adept at linguistics, deception, and stealth—skills that served him well in the escalating cold war between Iorill and its rivals. Yet his path was severed when a personal tragedy exiled him from his homeland, forcing him to abandon the life of duty for one of survival.
His exile brought him to the Black Shore Islands, where he fell in with Rhiven Harshtide and the crew of the Phantom Fleet. Among this band of outcasts, Dartimen found a fractured sense of family. His skills, honed in the courts of Iorill, translated effortlessly to the treacherous waters of piracy. Yet, it was here that he learned to balance his elven precision with the chaotic camaraderie of life at sea. His relationship with Aradir Skyblade, a fellow orphan turned mercenary, was particularly formative, blending rivalry with deep mutual respect.
Despite the freedom of the open seas, Dartimen could never escape the specter of betrayal. The fall of Kasheal, orchestrated by Lyra Shadowstar, left scars both literal and emotional. The destruction of the once-thriving world plunged Dartimen into a spiral of self-doubt, one that would haunt him for centuries. Yet even in the depths of loss, he found a spark of redemption in Cassandra Seinrill, a woman as formidable as she was compassionate. Their love, forged in the fires of the Second Prophet’s Crusade, became the foundation for Dartimen’s eventual transformation from a rogue into a reluctant hero.
Dartimen’s later years were marked by a series of breathtaking exploits. From co-leading the Phantom Fleet in a legendary campaign against the Avindor Royal Navy to liberating the Black Shore Islands, his actions left an indelible mark on history. Yet, his most enduring legacy may be the alliances he forged and the lives he touched. Those who sailed with him aboard the Stormrider—Brimstone Steelhammer, Jessa, Rilian, and Ka’Rakk—spoke of his unwavering loyalty and uncanny ability to turn even the most desperate situations to their advantage.
Through it all, Dartimen remained a man of contradictions. His charisma and cunning were tempered by a quiet guilt over his failures. His sharp wit often masked the weight of his regrets. Yet, it was these very traits that made him both relatable and extraordinary—a man who refused to be defined by his circumstances, even as they shaped him.
Dartimen’s story reached its conclusion at the Battle of Dreamrend, where he sacrificed himself to save his daughter and comrades during the fall of the Crystal Citadel. In his final moments, he stood as he always had: a defiant figure against impossible odds, driven not by glory but by the love and loyalty that had defined his life. Even in death, Dartimen Silvernight remains a symbol of resilience—a reminder that even the most fractured lives can burn brightly.
