"Dear Rillian"
A Letter From Anson Seinrill To Rillian Harshtide
Dear Rilian, It is rare that I take pen to paper, as I lack the eloquence of poets. Sometimes, though, I find inspiration in the most innocent and unlikely of places. If you will indulge me, then, I have something I have waited far too long to say. Please find it in your heart to forgive me for my cowardice. I should speak these words to you face-to-face. In my life, I have found such inspiration only once before. The loss of that simple beauty and the warmth my heart once felt made me pray for the death my blood would not allow. I traveled the world alone for a long time, silently lamenting all I had lost. I wrestled with thoughts that should not plague a sane mind. What good was eternity when I had nothing left to live for? Arashi-sensei once told me that nothing is static—that everything changes in some way, large or small, for better or for worse. Something about his words made me think. I do not doubt my master, but something about that statement never seemed right to me. I know now why that is. Arashi-sensei was wrong, and I have you to thank for showing me his error. There is something constant, something in the universe that is, indeed, eternal. There are countless things to kill for, but now, more importantly, I have found someone for whom I would welcome death without hesitation. There is a secret known only to me: Thunder has a companion weapon. I have kept it hidden at my master's request. Long ago, he instructed me to keep it safe from everyone, including himself. It carries with it the honor and trust Arashi-sensei gave to the gaijin he treated like a son, with the promise that, in turn, it be presented to one I love and trust with my life. Thus, I give Heaven to you. I love you, Anson
