Wherein
This is my first time entering the World Anvil Worldbuilding Awards, and I wanted to showcase Areeott—a land where perfection is enforced, history is carefully curated, and survival is never guaranteed. Each of these pieces pulls back the veil on different aspects of the kingdom, revealing the forces, traditions, and myths that shape it.
To the world, he is a hero. To Areeott, he is a martyr. To those who know the truth, he is neither. Corvyn Seinrill never died—he watches, unseen, guiding a kingdom that believes it rules itself. The barons change, the years pass, but the hand behind the throne has never left.
They do not protect. They do not serve. They correct. When they arrive, there is no negotiation—only certainty. A noble’s ambitions unravel overnight. A merchant’s wealth vanishes without a trace. A rival disappears, and no one dares ask where they went. The House Guard ensures Areeott remains exactly as it must be.
The wealth of Areeott runs deep beneath the mountain, but it does not belong to the world. Arin Silver, impossibly pure, is the foundation of the kingdom’s power, hoarded with ruthless precision. Empires would kill for even a fraction of it. They have tried. They have failed. The mountain does not yield.
They came as wanderers, exiles with nowhere left to go. Areeott did not welcome them—but they stayed, and they endured. Their fire was not extinguished; it was reforged. They wove themselves into the kingdom’s fabric, not by asking permission, but by making themselves impossible to ignore. Now, they are Arin.
Outsiders see a festival of warmth, of light, of celebration. But Winter’s Call is no simple holiday—it is a trial. Heirs to noble houses are cast into the wild, left to prove they are worthy of their lineage. Some return. Some do not. Areeott does not hand power to the untested.
Areeott controls its past. The Archaeomancers unravel it. They walk forgotten ruins, unearthing secrets long buried, pulling at the threads of history that were never meant to be found. Power lies in the stories a kingdom chooses to tell. But what happens when the past refuses to stay silent?
