The White Lotus Society

Base Of Operations: White Lotus Castle, Chian Empire   Commonly known info: There are threats to the Empire that even the emperor cannot see. In the aftermath of the Era of Sleeping Hearts, the White Lotus Society was formed to combat threats to the empire spawned by dark magic, oni and even the dreaded Mokurai clan. They are the first and only line of defense the empire has against the otherworldly powers that infest the land. Volunteers commit themselves to the protection of the Empire and to vanquishing the forces of darkness. Their training begins at White Lotus Castle until the day of their gempukku, where they don the Grey and Black armor of the White Lotus. The samurai armies of the White Lotus Society are large enough to qualify as that of a great clan though they remain out of political matters and stay focused on their ancestral task.   Goals and Ideals: Loyal to the Empire, even above the will of the Emperor, the White Lotus seek only to protect the Xian people from the dark forces that would destroy it.   Leadership: The White Lotus Society is headed by an Imperial appointed shugenja and his hand selected council of advisors, diviners and lore masters. It is their job to investigate and combat the darkness and the threats it brings. Under them, the samurai of the Society are at their disposal and do most of the grunt work involved with rooting out any confirmed threats.   Behind the Curtain Information: The White Lotus is being stretched thin. Their recruits grow smaller and smaller by the day. They are being systematically erased by the now corrupted Jade Guard. There are however some among the Society ranks that are aware of the shadows behind that actions of the Guard but because of protocol and etiquette there progress in combating it is slow at best. Many feel these are the last days of the Society and worse yet, the last days of the Empire.
