The Mokurai

Base Of Operations: Somewhere in the Xian an Empire Commonly known info: What information about the Mokurai that once might consider common comes in the form of folk tales and ghost stories told to frighten children. Rumored to be the remnants of a clan stricken from Imperial record for crimes too great to be spoken of again, they are said to be ninja and blood sorcerers. Legend holds them responsible for much of the woes and folly of the empire, in their quest for vengeance. There has been little evidence discovered to support the notion that the clan itself even existed, much less that they are responsible for the various atrocities that befall the empire. It’s very possible that it is all nothing more than peasant myth.   Goals and Ideals: It is said the only goal of the Moukrai is the total subversion of the throne and the empire, as revenge for the destruction of the clan.   Leadership: Mokurai Kiyoshi, the daimyo of the clan upon its alleged destruction is said to still haunt the empire and lead those loyal to him from the shadows.   Behind the Curtain Information: There are few stories in the empire filled with more tragedy than that of Mokurai Kiyoshi. Though much of the true accounts have been lost to history, some secret accounts of the destruction of the clan survive. They speak of a forbidden and secret romance between the Daimyo and the Empress herself. How one ill-timed kiss sealed the fate of the clan charged with keeping the dark forces of the spirit world at bay. A terrible wrath was brought down by the hand of the Emperor, destroying the clan's holdings, its peasants, its samurai, their families – everything burned. As a final insult, the Emperor ordered the body of the Empress defiled and burned, denying any chance that Kiyoshi could use his vile magic to bring her back from the Underworld. Those that followed him vanished into the shadows upon the destruction of Shiro Sano Mokurai. It is said Kiyoshi vowed he would dismantle the empire piece by piece if necessary to find a way to return the Empress to life. Since that day, the Imperial household has kept a sharp eye on the shadows, knowing that Kiyoshi’s vengeance will come one day or another.
