The League of Watchmen

Base Of Operations: Diego’s Folly, Estania   Commonly known info: The League of Watchmen, or simply “The Watchmen” as the peoples of Aerith know them are the feared guild of assassins and bounty hunters. The watchmen were the original body of law enforcement in the nation of Avindor before the inception of the Grand Judicators. They were originally a league of peacekeepers and night watchmen. When the peasantry of Avindor began being plagued by the criminal element and found no justice under the law, The Watchmen began taking payments to remove the problem. For them, murder for hire became more profitable than their jobs as peace keepers. However, there was a small catch to their contracts. A murder could only be purchased if it truly served the cause of justice. In Avindor, there is no honor among thieves – but there is among its silent killers. When the Grand Judicators were formed the High Justice outlawed the now infamous League Of watchmen and condemned them as the killers they were. The organization was forced to go underground and flee the island nation. They still exist to this day, and its members come from all races and nations. Though nobody knows any way of distinguishing a member of the League, there are rumored to be channels one can go through to find Justice in the shadows.   Goals and Ideals: Above all, the Watchmen believe in serving justice. From their time in Avindor, they know all too well that the justice systems of mortals are flawed and corrupt. It is their vow and their honor to bring to justice those who thought they could escape it.   Leadership: The League of Watchmen is governed by a democratic tribunal of elder members. They are elected by the members of the League and serve on the tribunal for life. Since members are scattered across the globe they mainly deal with running the organization, voting on large assignments, collecting dues and maintaining safe houses, secret identities and retirement covers. Members are allowed free reign over what jobs they do or don’t take, however the Tribunal can mandate that a certain member perform a certain task. Such cases however are few and far between. Behind the Curtain Information: The Watchmen are one of the most clandestine organizations on Aerith, and have been responsible for deaths that have changed the history of the world. They however are not interested in things like politics only serving the cause of justice. The problem with identifying members is that they themselves don’t know who other members are. Safe houses are marked with hidden symbols and they set up their own means of getting alerted for potential jobs. The bounty hunters of the watchmen serve as just that, bounty hunters. Since that profession is more socially acceptable then a killer for hire. Most members however make a distinction about killing. Most that object to murder simply bring fugitives to justice.
