The Chronicles

All That Remains of the Truth

"The books are not history. They are not myth. They are judgment, bound in ink and regret. Every name within these pages was written by Corvyn's own hand, each one a sentence passed without trial. Some deserved it. Others… I’m not so sure. But if you open one of these books, understand this—you are not just reading a story. You are waking something that was meant to be forgotten."

— Simon Lockhart, Personal Journal

The books hidden within the Seinrill Catacombs are not simple records. They are prison bars, written in ink instead of iron. Each one holds the last, unaltered truth of a being Corvyn Seinrill deemed too dangerous to remain free. Some were his enemies, others were his allies, and a few were simply monsters of such overwhelming power that even he refused to take the risk of leaving them in the world.   Each book contains more than just a story. They explain why Corvyn acted. Why these individuals were not merely defeated, but erased. Each entry in The Chronicles reflects a single moment in his past, a time when he encountered something that could not be left to fate or chance. Many of those imprisoned in the Durance had nothing to do with the war that ultimately ended Corvyn’s reign. Some never stood against him at all. Their only crime was existing in a way that threatened the balance he fought to control.   It was never about good or evil. It was about power.   Some were sealed away because they had crossed a line, committing acts so catastrophic that even Corvyn, a man who had sacrificed everything in his pursuit of perfection, knew they had to be stopped. Some, however, were locked away because of what they might have become. He never took chances with uncertainty. If something could grow beyond his ability to destroy, it was put away before it ever had the chance.   There are those who, even in their imprisonment, still play a role in Corvyn’s legacy. Figures who, in one way or another, helped shape his downfall. Some betrayed him outright. Some never intended to, yet their actions set into motion the events that led to his undoing. It is a cruel irony that they now sit trapped within the Durance, unable to escape the fate they helped create.   To the ones who enter the Seinrill Catacombs, these books are more than forgotten relics. They are a choice. Reading one is not passive knowledge—it is an act, a key turning in a lock. These beings are still here, bound by Corvyn’s will, held in place by the sheer weight of his power. But the books are the final tether, the last link between them and the world they were torn from.   The reader does not simply uncover history. They decide what happens next.   The book they choose will determine the last trial they face, the final test before they can claim a place among the Seinrill House Guard. And at the end of their journey, when the moment arrives, they will not stand against some nameless horror or forgotten villain.   They will stand against someone Corvyn himself judged unworthy of freedom.   And in doing so, they will learn whether they are worthy to stand in his name.   Or if they, too, belong in the Durance.
