Master's Edge

Weapon (Longsword), Legendary (Requires Attunement by a Good-Aligned Character)

Description:

The personal weapon of the God Xal'Kanan, the Master's Edge is a celestial masterpiece, forged in the divine fires of Xal'Kanan's eternal forge. The blade shimmers with a spectral glow, shifting colors from a warm, golden hue to a deep, fiery red as if reflecting the passage of the sun across the sky. The guard is an elegant swirl of phoenix feathers, and the pommel holds a radiant gemstone that pulses with the light of a tiny, eternal flame. Intricate engravings of sunbursts, phoenixes, and candles run along the blade, each glowing softly with a light that brings comfort and clarity.

Properties:

Radiant Blade: The Master's Edge deals an additional 2d10 radiant damage on a hit.

Flame of Wisdom: The wielder gains advantage on Intelligence (Arcana), Wisdom (Insight), and Wisdom (Perception) checks while holding the sword.

Light of Truth: As an action, the wielder can cast True Seeing (duration 1 hour, no concentration required) once per day.

Special Abilities:

Eclipse of the Soul: The Master's Edge harbors the catastrophic power known as the Eclipse of the Soul. This power, granted by Xal'Kanan, allows the wielder to annihilate the very essence of a creature, using the raw, purifying fire of divine judgment. This ability can only be used three times in the weapon’s existence, symbolizing the tri-fold nature of divine justice: creation, preservation, and destruction. When activated, the blade erupts in a blinding, golden inferno. If a creature is reduced to 0 hit points by this attack, their soul is consumed by the celestial flames, utterly erased from existence. This eradication means the creature cannot be resurrected by any means, including Wish or divine intervention. Andrielle's soul was the last to suffer this ultimate fate, leaving the weapon forever changed by its final use of this ability.

Phoenix’s Rebirth: Once per long rest, the wielder can use an action to invoke the power of the phoenix. They and up to five creatures of their choice within 30 feet are surrounded by a blazing aura of fire and light, healing each creature for 10d8 hit points and removing any conditions afflicting them (such as poisoned, paralyzed, or frightened). Additionally, any undead within this radius take 10d8 radiant damage.

Sunlit Guardian: The Master's Edge emits an aura of light in a 30-foot radius and dim light for an additional 30 feet. Allies within this light gain advantage on saving throws against being frightened and charmed. As a bonus action, the wielder can intensify this light, blinding all enemies within 10 feet who fail a DC 18 Constitution saving throw for 1 minute. Blinded enemies can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of their turns.

Candle of Knowledge: The Master's Edge holds a reservoir of ancient knowledge. Once per long rest, the wielder can meditate with the sword for one hour to gain insight into a single question as if they had cast the Commune spell, communing directly with Xal'Kanan.

Attunement:

To attune to The Master’s Edge, a character must spend one hour meditating in bright sunlight or beside a large, open flame, reflecting on the virtues of knowledge, wisdom, and justice. During this meditation, they must also recount three instances where they acted with pure intent and selfless wisdom.

Lore:

The Master's Edge was crafted by Xal'Kanan himself, the god of knowledge, magic, and wisdom, as a beacon of hope and a tool of ultimate judgment. The sword's ability to perform the Eclipse of the Soul thrice was a deliberate design, reflecting the three pillars of Xal'Kanan's divine ethos: the birth of knowledge, the preservation of wisdom, and the cleansing power of truth. This tri-fold power was to ensure that such a devastating force could only be wielded sparingly, emphasizing the grave responsibility it carried.   The Eclipse of the Soul was a means to combat the most irredeemable evils, those whose very existence posed a threat to the balance of the multiverse. The power was used only in the most dire of circumstances, ensuring that the wielder understood the full weight of their actions. The first two uses of this power are shrouded in mystery, each tied to ancient legends of terrible beings vanquished by the light of Xal'Kanan. The final use, on Andrielle, was a tragic accident that forever marked the sword and its history.

Additional Details:

Divine Embers: The sword leaves a trail of glowing embers in its wake, which fade after a few moments but illuminate the path ahead.

Memory Echo: When held, the wielder occasionally hears faint whispers of past wielders, offering cryptic advice or reflections of their deeds.

Eternal Vigil: While the sword is drawn, it grants the wielder the benefits of the Alert feat, ensuring they cannot be surprised and gain a +5 bonus to initiative.

The Master's Edge is more than a weapon; it is a testament to the enduring power of knowledge and the relentless pursuit of wisdom, a legacy that spans across the eons and touches the very fabric of the multiverse.
