Anakis Crime Family

A Legacy of Survival and Influence

Origins and Rise to Power

The Anakis family’s journey from wandering performers to one of the most powerful crime families in Areeott is a tale of survival, adaptation, and cunning. Originally, they were a troupe of Tiefling performers in the Witchlight Carnival, enchanting audiences with their mesmerizing acts and magical prowess. However, the Shattering changed everything. Civilization collapsed, and magic ceased to function for centuries, leaving the Anakis and many others struggling to find their place in a world thrown into chaos.   During the immediate aftermath of the Shattering, the Anakis family found themselves wandering through a devastated landscape, facing prejudice and distrust. Their skills in performance and illusion, however, became crucial assets. When Andrielle Seinrill sought aid in rallying the remnants of the betrayed noble houses, the Anakis family offered their unique talents. They became spies, assassins, and infiltrators, using their magical heritage to turn the tide against the Heretic King’s forces.   Their pivotal role in reopening the Seinrill Catacombs and supporting Andrielle in her darkest hour earned them a place of honor and trust within the Seinrill Barony. Great Grandmother Anakis, a powerful seer, played a crucial role in revealing the survival of Corvyn Seinrill and rallying the noble houses to continue the fight. Her prophecy steeled Andrielle’s resolve, leading to the eventual triumph over their enemies.

Establishing Their Dominion

As Areeott began to rebuild, the Anakis family’s influence grew. They capitalized on their newfound position, transitioning from a life of performance to one of organized crime. The family’s talents in deception and manipulation allowed them to carve out a niche in Areeott’s underworld. They became experts in smuggling, information brokering, and clandestine operations, effectively becoming the Baron's underhand, handling tasks that required subtlety and discretion.   Their operations expanded, and the Anakis became known for their ability to procure rare and forbidden items. From ancient relics to powerful magical artifacts, they could find or steal anything. This made them invaluable to Corvyn Seinrill, who often used their services to acquire items necessary for his secretive plans. The Anakis family’s network of contacts spread across the land, making them one of the most influential and feared organizations in Areeott.

Legacy of Loyalty and Secrecy

Despite their criminal activities, the Anakis family maintains an unbreakable loyalty to the Seinrill Barons. This loyalty is rooted in the bond forged during the desperate times following the Shattering and the trust built over centuries. They are privy to the deepest secrets of the Seinrill lineage, including Corvyn’s true nature and his centuries-long illusion of dynastic succession. This knowledge ensures their continued prominence and protection within Areeott.   The Anakis family’s influence is felt in every corner of Areeott. They control the flow of illicit goods, manipulate information, and maintain a delicate balance between the noble houses and the underworld. Their presence is a constant reminder of the shadows that lurk beneath Areeott’s seemingly perfect facade. While the noble houses uphold the appearance of order and tradition, the Anakis family ensures that the hidden gears of power continue to turn smoothly.

Modern-Day Anakis

Today, the Anakis family is a sophisticated crime syndicate, blending the elegance of their carnival origins with the ruthlessness of their criminal empire. They are masterful in their operations, maintaining a facade of respectability while conducting their illicit activities. Their influence extends beyond Areeott, with connections in other realms and a reputation that strikes fear and respect into those who know of their power.   The family continues to be led by descendants of the original Anakis troupe, each generation inheriting the skills and knowledge of their ancestors. They remain a crucial part of Corvyn Seinrill’s strategy, ensuring that his plans unfold without a hitch. The Anakis family’s legacy is one of adaptability, cunning, and unwavering loyalty, making them an indispensable part of Areeott’s complex social and political tapestry.

Notable Members and Their Roles

Great Grandmother Anakis Great Grandmother Anakis remains a legendary figure within the family. Her prophecy and seer abilities played a critical role in the survival and eventual victory of Andrielle Seinrill and her allies. Even after her passing, her teachings and wisdom continue to guide the Anakis family.   Marcus Anakis The current head of the Anakis family, Marcus Anakis, is known for his strategic mind and ruthless efficiency. He has expanded the family’s influence, ensuring that their operations run smoothly and their loyalty to the Seinrill Barons remains unshaken. Marcus is a charismatic leader, able to inspire loyalty and fear in equal measure.   Elara Anakis Elara Anakis, Marcus’s sister, is the family’s chief intelligence officer. Her skills in espionage and information gathering are unparalleled. She oversees a network of spies and informants that spans across Areeott and beyond, providing crucial intelligence to both the Anakis family and Corvyn Seinrill.   Valen Anakis Valen Anakis, a skilled enforcer, handles the family’s more physical operations. He is responsible for ensuring that the Anakis family’s interests are protected, dealing with any threats or challenges that arise. Valen’s strength and combat skills make him a formidable opponent, and his loyalty to the family is unwavering.   The Anakis Influence in Areeott The Anakis family’s presence in Areeott is a testament to their adaptability and resilience. They have seamlessly integrated into the complex social and political landscape, using their skills and influence to navigate the delicate balance of power. Their operations, while often shrouded in secrecy, are essential to the functioning of Areeott’s society, ensuring that the undercurrents of power and control remain intact.   In a land where appearances can be deceiving, the Anakis family embodies the duality of Areeott. They are both respected and feared, their actions crucial to maintaining the facade of order and tradition. As Areeott continues to evolve, the Anakis family remains a constant, their influence and legacy etched into the very fabric of the land.                           The Anakis Family: A Legacy of Survival and Influence The Anakis family, a lineage of Tieflings, traces its origins back to the chaotic aftermath of the Shattering. Displaced by the collapse of civilization, the Anakis were once a family of wandering performers, part of the mystical Witchlight Carnival. In a world ravaged by the Heretic King Amraz, where few had use for a carnival, the Anakis' unique abilities as infiltrators, spies, and assassins became invaluable to the remnants of the betrayed noble houses.   Their talents in disguise and subterfuge, honed through years of performing, allowed them to offer critical support to Andrielle Seinrill and her beleaguered forces. They provided protection, improved morale, and crucial aid in reopening the sealed Seinrill Catacombs, where Andrielle, pregnant with twins Anson and Cassandra, and a few survivors took refuge. The Anakis elders, with their innate magical abilities, played a pivotal role during these desperate times.   The Anakis' Role in Areeott's Shadows The relationship between the Anakis family and House Seinrill has deepened over centuries. While House Serance is known as the Right Hand of the Baron and House Akkara as the Left Hand, the Anakis family is the Baron's Underhand, trusted with the most clandestine and legally dubious activities. Their influence spans from fencing high-end objects to supplying rare commodities, making them indispensable to Corvyn Seinrill's intricate plans.   Despite their criminal undertakings, the Anakis family is untouchable within Areeott, their power and influence unrivaled among the organized crime families. Their loyalty to the Seinrill Barons, especially their understanding of Corvyn's centuries-long illusion of dynastic succession, ensures their continued prominence. In the delicate balance of Areeott's society, where perfection masks underlying chaos, the Anakis family thrives, navigating the shadows with skill and subtlety.         House of Anakis      Grandmother Anakis knew Corvyn ends up doing scanedlous shit.   Organized crime families in a given country seldom play nice with one other, at least not for very long. Now, while it may seem a bit strange that the Noble Houses, much less the Seinrill Barony would even tolerate such activity. In short, Corvyn uses it to get the crap he doesn't need out, while clandestinely using these syndicates and cartels to attract people to Areeott because Corvyn wants people to bring him stuff, above board or not. He is content to let these crime families, many of which are descendants of those people who had at some point after the immediate return of King Amraz after his cowardice in fleeing the battle of Bastion, believing Xal'Kanan, the god of magic, had abandoned him because of the effect of the Shattering (which had nothing to do with anything related to Gods.) For instance, one of the oldest of such crime families are the Anakis. They are descendants of a large family of tieflings, displaced by the utter chaos that was the essential collapse of civilization immediately after the Shattering. They were a family of wandering performers. Circus-folk, with one foot in the faewild wonder of the Witchlight Carnival. In those days, nobody had use for a carnival, much less one of tieflings. But in a land, destroyed by the Heretic King, Andrielle and the broken forces of those families not destroyed and left for dead by the houses who had sided with the betrayer, the Heretic King Amraz.   Andrielle and what forces the broken families could muster welcomed the Anakis family's aid. Tieflings could still use and manipulate many forms of magic. In time, it would be their many abilities adated from their skills in the carnival that allowed them to serve as the infiltrators, spies, assassins, actors, etc (real world special forces sort of) They were able to offer everything from critical aid in the form of extra hands, to guards offering protecting during the rest of those who could neight fight nor protect anyone without respite to imporving morale with their many talents which were all critical to Andrielle and, upon his return, Corvyn's ultimate success; in the immediate aftermath of the worst imaginable personal tragedy for many of the survivors of the ruthless, greed fueled fervor of the wrath of the Heretic King and his minions, the Anakis family were able to be there to comfort and be present for, at first, the survivors of the Siege of Castle Seinrill, at the hands of two of the Fallen Houses under King Amraz.   It was a pair of elders of the Anakis family who were among the only innate magic users still strong enough to play an instrumental role in reopening the Seinrill Catacombs, which Corvyn had turned into a final fallout shelter for Andrielle, and his family then sealed before departing for what he very well believed would be his death at the Battle of Bastion. As tragic twist of fate, and out of an act of selfish, unforgiveable betrayal of House Seinrill at the hands of House Isari, it was only Andrielle, who was herself pregnant with the twins Anson and Cassandra at the time, as well as her (adult) nephew, Simon Lockhart, in additon to a handful of others who were sealed inside the elaborate maseleoum, and personal family museum of the Seinrill family. Corvyn having turned a magnificant family tomb into a place that could as closely resemble a place Andrielle and his family could be safe, no matter what happened to him or his father Augustus Seinrill at the Battle of Bastion. For if he failed and the dragongs of the Rising Scourge prevailed, the awesome power of the true, Prime Dragons was enough that even Seinrill Castle or the Catacombs below could protect them but it was the best he could do.   It was Great Grandmother Anakis who explained to Andrielle the fate of those who had been deceived by House Isari, and thus, never made it to the safetey of the Seinrill Catacombs. Eveyone else, Corvyn's entire family, and most tragically, Andrielle and Corvyn's first child, a fourar year old son (for out of game reference, those people were all killed in a single Romanov-like betrayal event, and again, that's just for your basic idea) had been betrayed and murdred. Great Grandmother Anakis held Andrielle as she wailed over the news while the other elder women of the Anakis family looked after the infants Anson and Cassandra. She helped Andrille bury the dead within the Catacombs.   And, to the shock of everyone, It was Great Grandmother Anakis who would later use her divination powers to reveal to the stunned survivors of the betrayed noble houses of Areeott, Corvyn and many others were indeed still very much alive. It was this news that steeled Andrielle's resolve to rally the forces of the betrayed noble houses and retaliate against the Heretic King, harring them as best they could until Corvyn and the others returend to Areeott.   And the entire Anakis line has served the Seinrill Barons exclusively and in a number of shall we say unique ways, until this day. If House Serance are the Right hand of the Baron and House Akkara are the left hand of the Baron, the Anakis is family can be thought of as the Baron's underhand. The Anakis family have enjoyed a great deal of the generosity bestowed on all those who ultimately supported what are now the Noble Houses of Areeott. But the Anakis and the Seinrill enjoy a special relatonship. (Among other unique points, they have always been perfectly aware of Corvyn's centuries of his illusion of a dynastic succession of Seinrill family members who act as the "current" Baron Seinrill.   The Anakis family has made a tremendous amount of money in all that time helping the House of Seinrill accomplish things that would otherwise require the Baron Seinrill to directly get his hands dirty. Should the Baron Seinrill have some immediate need of a legally dubious activity accomplished for which use of the Seinrill Houseguard would be overkill, it is the Anakis that are typically called upon. This could for anything from fencing high end objects (magic items, lore, relics, art, whatever) to supplying high end wine for a dinner party. They're the ones "who can get it for ya."   And there are a lot of such families in Areeott, by no means all tieflings either, humans, dwarves, changlings, even elves all have some kind of mafia or organized crime presence in Areeott to some degree or other but by far the most powerful, influential and dangerous are the Anakis. And so long as their, or any other group's activities (illicit or not) do not disrupt the outward peace of Areeott, Corvyn Seinrill doesn't care and is content to leave the other Noble Houses to deal with things as they see fit but for the most part, within Areeott, the Anakis are quite untouchable in terms of the paralnce of street crime.
